Maine Pagans

For Pagans who are Mainers in fact or in spirit.

I know I'm not the only tattooed Pagan here. I'll start with my totem, a porcupine shaman of my own design. Millenia ago, Archilochos wrote, "The fox knows many tricks, the hedgehog only one. One good one."

Anyone else want to share? I bet Jane wants us to keep it "family show", so nothing to scare the horse. E-mail me those separately!

Andy is right that I would prefer not to see identifiable naughty bits, either on you or on your tattoos. Not that I have anything against naughty bits. In fact I like to have them against me on occasion. But you know what I mean.

For the record, I have no tattoos, in part because of a health condition that makes it ill-advised. Were I to get one, it would of course be a scroll with "Hello Sailor" on it. You may use your imagination as to where it would go.

Here is a link to my backpiece:

I'm the oak tree in the lower left. The oak is holy to Thor (Donar, Thunor) and the spiral surrounded by ravens represents the Well of Wyrd, so its my "Well & Tree". This tattoo work actually lead me into paganism and its started out as my personal response to 9/11. I'd always been interested in mythology and religion (and tattooing) and for many years had thought about getting Yggdrasil put on my back. When I finally decided I was going to do it , in 2003, I started to do web searches for a good Yggdrasil pattern and discovered the world of actually existing neo-paganism. I had no idea you people existed before that. Glad I found you though.

That's very cool. You've found a way into the Pagan community that I hadn't heard of before, too!

Matt, that's an amazing tattoo. The Well is really cool. I love all those ravens in the other pic on that site. Even if I could get a tat (health condition prevents it), I wouldn't be so bold as to have them all over my arm and chest, but a couple of them would be cool.

Andy, what IS that tattoo?

It's a small image of a man/porcupine figure, modeled after the scrimshaw image that I'm using for my icon.
Kind of a personal totem. Somebody swatted it once, thinking it was a horse-fly...
When it was new it looked clearer, and I've been thinking of asking about getting it touched up.
Or turned into a scroll that reads, "Hello, Siren."
;-)

Another rave for Rev. Jen Moore (Sanctuary Tattoo in Portland). She fixed up the Pentalpha that was on my shoulder and added an image of Sol (that I found from NASA) behind it this last December...

Previously she had put these spirals on my left arm...

The plan is to put Luna in behind these spirals at the same size as Sol is on my right arm for a bit more balance of ink than I have now.

That's gonna be nice!
My dad recently got a bold green spiral done on his bald spot. I'll post a picture when I get one...

He DIDN'T! Well, OK, I've met your dad, I'm sure he did. Perhaps Cassius should consider having SPQR and a laurel wreath in the same location :)

That'd be great! Or maybe Latin for, "If you can read this, you're being rude about my bald spot."

Here's Don's new head tattoo. He says that the spiral grows whenever he has a great new experience. Added leaves were mentioned, too, so we may have to film his head in stop-motions style...
