Maine Pagans

For Pagans who are Mainers in fact or in spirit.

I know I'm not the only tattooed Pagan here. I'll start with my totem, a porcupine shaman of my own design. Millenia ago, Archilochos wrote, "The fox knows many tricks, the hedgehog only one. One good one."

Anyone else want to share? I bet Jane wants us to keep it "family show", so nothing to scare the horse. E-mail me those separately!

Hello! I'm new but I have 11 tattoos. Most can be seen on my profile. All pertaining to my faith or heritage. I believe adorning the human body with sacred or spiritual images is a beautiful thing. Joseph Campbell spoke of a tribal medicine man who had adorned sacred images on his face and body and said, "He is living in the moment of ritual and sacred practice at all time. He is always in the sacred state." I believe we are all born in our perfect skin in our perfect shapes but I also believe when our divine vessels fall away and our spirits walk on. Therefore I see it as a sign of temple adornment and honoring of the body to mark it with blessed and meaningful images.

Hi Rebecca! Cool tattoos, I'll check out the ones at your profile next...I have a new one to post once I find my camera, unless I can find the one I shot before losing it! I had my new one done by Jenn Moore at Sanctuary in Portland and found her wonderful to work with!
I agree with you completely about temple adornment; I have one cheap "because it looked cool" tattoo, and will eventually get a cover-up on that with more meaning.

First Word, Last Will
C. Eric Robbins

Meanders on the altars of forgotten folk
Give sound to meaning. First upon the lips
Of children is the word for Mother, stroke
Of waters. Always is rebirth rehearsed.
Before pornography the figurines
Of multi-breasted women, cowrie shells,
And brazen yoni amulets were clean,
A tribute to Her power, magic wells
Where any life can be reformed, returned.
In faith the heathens sing the ancient song.
For this they ridicule, for this, they burn!
Deny the Dance to be reborn? They’re wrong;
Just paint me ochre, dance me spiral, sing
Me back into the source of every thing!
